It’s hard to say. It could be that there is unfinished business there — it wouldn’t be surprising that there is. However, the context was trying to say that he got over that & it certainly had to be a far worse scenario, so you should be over his breaking up with you. But I have learned that “should’ve’s and could’ve’s” just don’t fit very well when trying to deal with emotional issues. Just like growing up, there really isn’t a time table and no one can impose a time table on someone else — or themselves for that matter.
